Inclusion & Well-Being

OUR APPROACH

At SORALO we support women, youth, and persons with disabilities to participate meaningfully in conservation and to benefit from sustainable, conservation-compatible livelihoods.

This thematic area brings together inclusion and well-being. Our inclusion work focuses on women, youth, and persons with disabilities, while our well-being work promotes health, welfare, and safeguarding. We catalyse community conversations on conservation and well-being including maternal and reproductive health, mental health, and their relevance to conservation while creating pathways for mentorship and conservation-compatible enterprises across the landscape.

Our approach is grounded in One Health the understanding that human health, animal (livestock and wildlife) health, and environmental health are interconnected. By supporting healthier rangelands and stronger community capacity, we help improve livelihoods and strengthen resilience. We work with women, youth, and persons with disabilities to build skills in conservation and rangeland restoration, as well as diversified income generation, including ecotourism.

What we do

  • Trainings and information sharing for youth and adolescents (in-school and out-of-school).
  •   Support to the Ministry of Health to deliver community outreach services, including sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information and services, immunisation, and clinics.
  •   Entrepreneurship and livelihood skills for women and youth, including leadership development and managing group dynamics.

Our work is contributing to improved access to information and services, more diversified income options for pastoralist women and youth, stronger livelihood outcomes, and improved health-seeking behaviour within pastoralist communities.

What next?  To increase the number of facilities we support to increase coverages and reach of more people.  Establish centres of excellence in the community for learning for women and youth.  Scale up the conservation beads to the areas and fully establish them
