In the Kajiado West and Central areas of our landscape, the struggle for water has long been twofold: scarcity and destruction. The community and livestock walked long distances to fetch water, women had no convenient access to water and elephants desperate for water, would break tanks and damage borehole systems, leaving villages without access. The pressure was real, and coexistence was tested.
Thanks to your support we are changing this narrative. In the last few weeks we have protected vulnerable water tanks, repaired troughs and pipes, and installed solar systems across boreholes in Oltepesi Le Maora, Mailwa, Kikelea, Emukutan, Olasiti, and Emotoroki. We have also built water taps for women, water troughs for livestock and elephant water point to ensure that everyone, people and wildlife alike has access to reliable water supply.
The result? Families no longer trek long distances, women draw with dignity, livestock thrive, and elephants drink safely without destroying infrastructure. As Senior Chief Ole Njaanka of Mailwa shared, “For the first time, our community has received a lasting investment that truly provides water for both elephants and wildlife, supporting coexistence.”
These are more than infrastructure. They are lifelines that help families, animals, and wildlife thrive together.
