We are thrilled to have launched our first-ever Osotua Tournament this year. We brought together 47 teams, over 800 players from five Group Ranches.
Our goal was to create a platform that celebrates sports and champions SORALO’s mission of engaging youth and women, nurturing local talent, and promoting respect for culture, health and the environment. The tournament featured a wide range of activities such as football, volleyball, javelin throwing, cultural dances, and drama performances. The health team also rolled out a free medical camp treating over 300 people.
The event was designed to create opportunities for local youth and women to display their talents, learn from each other, and come together as a community. Each activity was carefully crafted to share important messages about culture, health, conservation, and education. This made sure the tournament was not just about sports, but also a vehicle for raising awareness about social and environmental issues. As SORALO Director John Kamanga shared, “This tournament has a unique ability to bring people together. It goes beyond football and creates a strong sense of community here.”
The turnout exceeded expectations, demonstrating a growing interest in combining sports with social impact. By successfully bringing people from diverse backgrounds together, it fostered a deeper sense of community and solidarity and not only advanced our vision of using sports as a tool for social change but also raising awareness on key issues facing our community. Building on this success, we are already planning for next year’s tournament, with a continued focus on connection, healthy competition, cultural pride, health and well-being.
